It’s been taking place for more then 30 years, and even though the teachers' strike is ongoing, the Lafarge Elementary/Middle Schools Cross Country Grand Prix is still a go.

This year’s edition of the immensely popular series will take place at Clearbrook Park on four consecutive Wednesdays, commencing Sept. 17. The Valley Royals-hosted events offer competition for athletes in Grades 4 to 8 and usually draw in excess of 1,000 participants per meet. At the conclusion of the four-week series, prizes are awarded to the top finishers and top schools in each age division.

Meet director Cindy Miller feels it’s important that the series still takes place, even though public schools may not be in session.

“Private schools have always been a big supporter of this event and we expect that they will want it held again this year,” stated Miller.

Public school runners are encouraged to register themselves for the series at valleyroyals.org. In addition, registrations will be accepted at Clearbrook Park between 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. prior to the first event on Sept. 17.
