Ryan Craig is going back to his hockey roots.
The 30-year-old forward from Abbotsford signed a one-year AHL contract with the Springfield Falcons last week.
It was eight years ago that Craig’s pro career started to find real traction with the Massachusetts club. The Falcons were the Tampa Bay Lightning’s affiliate at the time, and Craig scored 27 goals and added 14 assists in 80 games during the 2004-05 season. The following year, he was called up to the Lightning early in the campaign, and posted 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in just 48 games.
The Falcons are affiliated with the Columbus Blue Jackets these days, and Craig joins the team after two seasons in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. He totaled 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 68 games last season with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Craig has suited up for 190 NHL games with the Lightning and Penguins over his nine-year pro career.
