Clayburn wins Grade 8 girls’ b-ball tourney

Mouat Hawks win Robert Bateman tournament on Saturday.

Clayburn Middle School’s Grade 8 girls team won a tournament hosted at North Van’s Argyle secondary on the weekend.

Clayburn defeated Whistler secondary (33-20) and Crofton House (43-27) to reach the final against host Argyle. Clayburn prevailed 42-22 in the championship game. Clayburn Cougars players  Kayla Wilford, Caylee Watrin, and Amira Jensen were named tournament MVPs.

Grade 9 Hawks flying high

The Mouat Hawks soared to victory at the Robert Bateman Grade 9 boys basketball tournament on Saturday.

In its  first game, Mouat defeated SRT from Maple Ridge 53-30.  Prav Gill lead the way with 15 points and Gary Dhaliwal had a strong showing coming off injury. In the semifinal game, Mouat defeated MEI 41-37 in overtime. Harvir Garcha and Chris Khotawanich scored 13 and 10 points respectively. In the final, Mouat topped Rick Hansen 54-34. Chris Khotawanich drained four three-pointers and Prav Gill, Gagan Mellhi, and Reis Sekhon chipped in with nine points each.
