Chilliwack’s Deanna Tuchscherer scored a game-high 24 points Saturday night (Nov. 13), leading her University of the Fraser Valley Cascades to a blowout win over Thompson Rivers University (TRU).
Tuchscherer’s crew dumped the WolfPack 72-31 in the women’s basketball match at the UFV Athletic Centre, completing a weekend sweep of their overmatched foes. The Cascades crushed TRU by a 73-54 count Friday (Nov. 12).
UFV leads the Canada West Conference’s West Division with a 5-1 record. The WolfPack (0-6) are in the basement of the seven-team group.

“Today, the focal point of our game plan was staying focused, staying on task for 40 minutes. I thought we did a pretty good job of that,” said Cascades coach Al Tuchscherer following Saturday’s victory. “We came out with pretty good energy at the defensive end of the floor, and we were able to maintain that for a lot of the game.
“And it was nice for us to have the most flow we’ve had (offensively) for a sustained stretch, in the first and second quarter there, this season. That was good to see as well. We took better shots tonight, and we shared the ball.”
After a slow start to the season by her lofty standards — 13 and seven points in her first two games — Deanna Tuchscherer is hitting her stride. Over her last three outings, the G.W. Graham grad has collected 30, 24 and 26 points. She’s up to fourth in the Canada West Conference in points per game, averaging 20.
UFV has a bye this weekend and the Cascades return to action with a road trip to Kelowna to visit the UBC Okanagan Heat Nov. 26 and 27.
