Abbotsford native Kyle Cumiskey has been recalled by Chicago for the start of the NHL playoffs.

As they prepare to play their first playoff game Wednesday, the Chicago Blackhawks have recalled Abbotsford native Kyle Cumiskey.

Cumiskey, a 28-year-old defenceman, signed a contract with Chicago last summer after spending two seasons playing in Sweden.

He played seven games during the regular season for the Blackhawks in February after injuries hit Chicago’s blueline. In 54 games for the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, Cumiskey scored two goals and registered 20 points.

Whether Cumiskey gets into a game soon will depend in part on the health of 40-year-old veteran defenceman Kimmo Timonen, who has missed most of the year with injuries.

The Blackhawks open the playoffs Wednesday against the Nashville Predators.
