PACWEST regular season tips off Friday night for men’s and women’s teams

The CBC Bearcats men’s and women’s basketball teams open the PACWEST regular season tonight (Friday) at home.

The Columbia Bible College Bearcats men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the court tonight (Friday), when they host the VIU Mariners .

The PACWEST regular season home opener tips off at 5 p.m. for the women, and 7 p.m. for the men.

The men finished with a record of two wins and 16 losses last season, and failed to qualify for the postseason.

This year’s team will rely on returning sophomore guard Michael Olive, who was tied for 19th in the PACWEST for assists per game, and veterans Dave Wiebe and Tim Dick.

The women finished last season without a win (0-18).

Key returning players for the women include: Makayla Starman (PACWEST all-rookie team and ninth in the league in rebounds per game), Jessica Funk (12th in the league in assists per game) and Harvina Kaler (tied for 16th in assists per game).

The teams head to Victoria to take on the Camosun Chargers on Saturday, and play the Langara Falcons in Vancouver on Nov. 16.

The next home games for the teams are on Nov. 18, when they host the Quest Kermodes.
