Canadian women’s team heading to round of 16

A 1-1 draw sealed the deal for the Canadian women's national team as they top Group 'A' to move on to single-game eliminations Sunday.

Abbotsford’s Sophie Schmidt will head into round of 16 action with the Canadian women’s national team Sunday, June 21 after Canada the top-spot in Group ‘A’ with a 1-1 draw versus the Netherlands Monday evening.

Canada finished the group stage with one win and a pair of ties.

Schmidt and Canada now look to their single-game knock-out round match at B.C. Place against an opponent to be determined.

With just two goals in three round-robin games, Schmidt and Canada will need to find their scoring touch if they hope to advance.
