The Chilliwack Bruins led 3-2 early in the first period, but ended up dropping a 5-3 decision to the Spokane Chiefs Friday night.
Visiting the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena for the first time this season, the Bruins fell behind 1-0 6:09 into the first period on a goal by veteran Steven Kuhn. The 19-year-old scored on the power play, with Chilliwack's Curt Gogol serving two minutes for elbowing.
Five minutes later, with Tyler Stahl banished to the sin bin for roughing, 18-year-old Bruins forward Jamie Crooks tied things up with a shorthanded tally, his 11th of the year.
Chiefs defenceman Brendan Kichton restored the Spokane lead at 15:59, striking on another power play.
But Chilliwack's Mike Forsyth tied things up less than two minutes later, netting his seventh of the season with assists to linemate Tim Traber and goaltender Lucas Gore.
When Robin Soudek scored on a power play in the first minute of the middle frame, things looked rosy for the visitors.
But the home side took over from there.
Spokane out-shot the Bruins 19-8 in period two and scored twice in 88 seconds to re-take the lead. Darren Kramer and Matt Marantz did the damage.
Veteran Tyler Johnson added his league-leading 37th of the year midway through the final frame to wrap up the scoring.
The Chiefs improved to 30-12-4-2 while the Bruins dropped to 21-22-2-2 heading into a Saturday night home-ice matchup with the Kamloops Blazers.
