A trio of Abbotsford Rugby Football Club athletes brought home bronze medals from the World Games in Cali, Colombia earlier this month.

Justin Douglas, Jorden Sandover-Best and Clayton Meeres were part of the Canada Maple Leafs squad which competed in the rugby sevens tournament.

The Canadians went 2-1 in the round robin, with wins over Hong Kong and Colombia to go with a loss to South Africa. They opened the playoffs with a 26-7 quarter-final triumph over Brazil, but were eliminated from title contention thanks to a 17-7 defeat to Argentina in the semis.

Facing France in the bronze medal game, the Maple Leafs rallied to win 26-14.

"It was an awesome experience to play rugby on a global stage and to see the pace and skill that it'll take to get to the next level," said Sandover-Best.
