Bearcats volleyball teams advance to PacWest semifinals

For the first time in school history, both Columbia Bible College volleyball teams have advanced to the PacWest semifinals.

For the first time in school history, Columbia Bible College men's and women's volleyball teams have both advanced to the semifinals in the PacWest playoffs.

In postseason tournament action at Douglas College in New Westminster on Thursday, the No. 3-seeded CBC men defeated crosstown rival and No. 6 seed UFV in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-14). Will Quiring was named player of the game with 10 kills, while Matt Erickson also registered 10 kills. Aaron Flanagan, with 17 total offensive points, led the Cascades.

The Bearcats men move on to face the host Douglas Royals at 3 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals.

The No. 4-seeded CBC women knocked off the No. 5 Camosun Chargers, also in straight sets (25-20, 28-26, 25-20), in their opening-round match. Sadie Ball, the recently crowned PacWest rookie of the year, picked up player of the game honours after racking up 14 kills in the win. The Bearcats advance to play the top-ranked Vancouver Island University Mariners in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

The UFV Cascades women's volleyball squad, seeded No. 2, had an opening-round bye. They take on the No. 3 Capilano Blues in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday.
