In recent years, alumni teams from local high schools have added an interesting dimension to the Gobbler rugby tournament.

The 36th annual edition of the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club's fundraising tourney featured a trio of alumni squads on the men's side, from Bateman, Yale and Abby Senior.

Bateman earned ultimate bragging rights last weekend, capping their run to the title with a victory over Chuckanut of Bellingham in Sunday's final.

On the women's side, the ARFC entry emerged victorious.

"The alumni teams allow for people to come back to the different schools they went to and have some fun for a weekend," said Tyler Adams, who spearheaded the organization of the Gobbler this year. "You really blend some years – Abby had guys from the '80s, '90s and 2000s."

The Gobbler raises in the neighbourhood of $10,000 each year to fund ARFC operations, including the youth and mini rugby programs.
