Banks, DeGagne to be inducted into Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame

The Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame is set to welcome two new inductees.

Rugby player Ryan Banks and rope-skipping coach Deidre DeGagne will be inducted at a ceremony at the Legacy Building on April 27.

Banks's illustrious career included 36 international appearances with Team Canada, including two World Cups (1999 and 2003). He captained the national team, and played one professional season with the Bedford Blues in England.

DeGagne has coached the Abbotsford Skipping Sensations since 1990, and has hosted numerous provincial and national championship events in Abbotsford. She's being inducted in the community sport builder category.

Additionally, six teams and eight individuals will be honoured for their exploits in 2012 with a plaque on the Wall of Fame, which will be displayed at the Hall for one year.

Wall of Fame teams include the Abbotsford Panthers senior girls rugby, the Rick Hansen senior boys wrestling, the Abbotsford Pilots junior B hockey, the MEI junior boys volleyball, and the UFV men's golf and women's volleyball.

Individual honourees include Maleek Irons (football), Chelsea Jenner (softball), Mandeep Gill (wrestling), Shaun Dhillon (karate), Tyler Miller (figure skating), Tyler Koslowsky (volleyball), Gagandeep Dosanjh (soccer) and Tiffany Perkins (javelin).
