The Abbotsford Heat added some depth up front on Wednesday, signing Steve Begin and Carter Bancks to one-year AHL contracts.

Heat fans are familiar with Bancks, who has spent three full seasons with the club. The 24-year-old's most productive offensive season was in 2010-11, when he posted 19 points in 29 games before being sidelined by a concussion. The gritty forward also missed significant time due to injury each of the two subsequent seasons, suiting up for 55 games in 2011-12 and 59 in 2012-13. He made his NHL debut at the tail end of last season, playing two games with the Calgary Flames.

Begin represents a veteran presence in what is shaping up to be a youthful Heat squad this season. The 35-year-old has 524 NHL games under his belt with the Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators. He suited up for 36 games with Calgary last season, notching four goals and four assists.
