The BC Angels, Abbotsford’s Lingerie Football League Canada team, lost 22-8 to the Toronto Triumph in its regular season finale on Saturday.
But they’ll still play in the inaugural Lingerie Bowl – a product of their 2-2 record, which leaves them in second place in the four-team league. They’ll take on the first-place Saskatoon Sirens (3-1) on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (8 p.m. kickoff).
The Angels had already locked up a Lingerie Bowl berth heading into the Toronto game, since they owned the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Regina Rage, who also ended up finishing 2-2.
As such, head coach Kevin Snell was less concerned with the final score – he used the game to experiment with some new plays, and gave his backups more playing time.
“That’s not what we’ll be bringing to the table for the national final,” he said, pointing out that star running back Stephanie Manou only got four carries vs. Toronto. “We’ve got a lot of core plays we’re really good at, so we tried to incorporate some new stuff.”
The Angels’ lone touchdown came on a 50-yard interception return by free safety Jessica Hopkins.
The Lingerie Bowl was originally scheduled for Nov. 18, but the date was changed so as not to conflict with the CFL’s Western Final, which will be hosted by the B.C. Lions at BC Place.
