Chicago Wolves goalie Jake Allen stymied the Abbotsford Heat on Sunday, backstopping his team to a 2-0 victory.
Allen’s 21-save performance sent the Heat to their second loss in two nights vs. the St. Louis Blues affiliate – they’d dropped a 5-3 decision on Saturday.
Both Wolves goals came on the power play, with Evan Oberg tallying in the first period and Ty Rattie doubling the lead in the third.
Aaron Dell, signed earlier in the week from the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies, was making his first career AHL start in goal for the Heat, and allowed two goals on 21 shots. He was released on Monday, as Abbotsford netminder Joey MacDonald is poised to return from a concussion.
The Heat (33-17-4) are back at home this week for an important Friday-Saturday set vs. the defending Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins (7 p.m. both nights, Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre).
ICE CHIPS:
• After the game, Heat leading scorer Markus Granlund was recalled by the Calgary Flames.
• Heat centres Ben Street and Corey Locke missed both games vs. the Wolves due to injuries.
