The Aldergrove Dodgers played their hearts out at the 18U AAA Showdown Tournament but ended up losing 9-6 to the Ridge Meadows Royals in the final game Monday.

The Royals were the only team the Dodgers lost to in their six games over the Victoria Day long weekend, May 14-18, at Aldergrove Athletic Park.

The 10 team tournament featured AAA and equivalent teams from Greater Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and the BC Interior.

Aldergrove defeated South Fraser Giants 17-0 and Cowichan Valley 10-0 before falling to the Royals 1-8 in game three. Aldergrove followed that with two more wins, 11-1 over Coquitlam A's and a 3-1 win over the Nanaimo Bucs, the top team of their pool, in Monday morning's semi-finals.

Ridge Meadows defeated the Whalley Chiefs 8-1 in their semi final round, to set the Aldergrove and Ridge Meadows teams up for the gold and silver round.

Aldergrove fought back from a 5-0 deficit but it was not enough, as the Royals went on to win the gold with a 9-6 final score.

Still, it was a sterling silver finish for the Dodgers, who gave an outstanding performance. Their roster is Yuto Tanaka (pitcher), Mitch Brown, Travis Thiesen, Mitch Taylor, Nathan Dahl, C.J. Jamieson, Dawson Nelson, Arran Johnston, Clayton Churchill and Jonny St. Denis. The full roster included Jacob Baker, Colin Hopes, Monti Smith and Nic Davies, who did not play in the game or were injured. Jonny St. Denis was called up from Midget AA to play in the tournament, along with Noah Tombe and Adam Rajala.

PEEWEE TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

Minor baseball action returns to Aldergrove Athletic Park as Aldergrove hosts the 13U AA John Main Tournament, May 21-24.

The BC Baseball John Main 13U Peewee Tournament features 16 Peewee AA teams coming from around the province.

This BC Baseball heritage tournament is limited to one team plus pick-ups from each association entered in four pools, and so this tournament features the top 13U Peewee talent in the province on four fields over four days.

With four 13U Peewee fields available at Aldergrove Athletic Park, this is only the second time in the tournament's history that one association has been able to host all of the games.

The four pools include teams from Kelowna, North Delta, Duncan, Burnaby, Vancouver Minor, Chilliwack, Coq-Moody, Aldergrove, Ladner, Cloverdale, Abbotsford, Newton, Richmond, Nanaimo, Tsawwassen and Kamloops.

For Aldergrove action starts on Friday at 6 p.m. on field #1 with the Aldergrove Dodgers vs. Kamloops.

Next up is Saturday at 9 a.m. on field #2 with Burnaby vs. Aldergrove. Then at 6 p.m. on field #1 it will be Newton vs. Aldergrove.

The semi finals begin on Sunday at 10 a.m. with the top teams of the four pools playing on field #1 and #2, followed by the finals at 2 p.m. on field #1.
