Alberta's Armitage wins battle of undefeated rinks at Canadian Seniors Curling Championships

Two days into the Canadian Seniors Curling Championships, Alberta's Rob Armitage is the only men's skip to boast an unblemished record.

Two days into the Canadian Seniors Curling Championships, Alberta's Rob Armitage is the only men's skip to boast an unblemished record.

But he knows it's far too early to take anything for granted.

"It's a long week," Armitage pointed out with a smile, after beating Glenn Goss's Newfoundland and Labrador foursome 9-4 on Sunday evening in a battle of previously undefeated teams.

"There are so many teams here that are so good. I'm glad we're 3-0, and it gives us a bit of a cushion, but that's all it gives us. We're going to have to stay at it."

After opening with a 10-4 win over PEI's Charlie Wilkinson on Saturday, Armitage scored four in the eighth end against Quebec's Guy Charette on Sunday morning en route to an 8-5 win.

On Sunday evening, Goss's rink scored three in the fifth end to take a 4-3 lead. But Armitage responded with three of his own in the sixth, and a steal of two in the eighth all but sealed the deal.

"We've been a little fortunate at times," Armitage said. "A lot of times, it's not what you make, but when you make it. We've made some key shots at key times, and it's kind of carried us."

Goss is joined at 2-1 by B.C., Ontario, Manitoba and Northern Ontario.

KING, HARRISON LEAD THE WAY

On the women's side, Cathy King of Alberta and Ontario's Nancy Harrison are both perfect at 3-0.

In her lone game on Sunday, King edged previously undefeated Cathy Cunningham of Newfoundland and Labrador 6-5. Harrison, meanwhile, scored three in the seventh end en route to a 9-5 win over defending champion Heidi Hanlon of New Brunswick.

Cunningham's rink, along with Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan, are tied for third at 2-1.
