Abbotsford’s Sidhu twins have been selected to represent Canada at the 2023 Junior Pan American Field Hockey Championships in Barbados in April.

Rick Hansen Secondary School students Maansarovar (Maan) and Jyothswaroop (Jyoth) Sidhu have also launched a GoFundMe to help fund their trip to the event.

“Although we would stop at absolutely nothing to make sure we participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event, certain circumstances are out of one’s control,” they state on the fundraiser page. “In order for us to attend this event we must pay about $10,000 for both tours out of our own pockets in order to have this dream come true. The addition of fact that both of us are participating in this competition doubles and creates a hefty financial load on our humble family and us. So we sincerely request that you consider supporting and contributing to this dream of ours.”

They are seeking a total of $18,000 for the trip. The pair have currently collected $1,567 for the journey.

If the twins and Team Canada excel in Barbados they would then qualify for the Junior World Cup in Malaysia later this year. The Barbados event runs from April 10 to 18 in Saint Michael, Barbados.

The News previously reported on Jyoth in November 2021 when he launched a successful GoFundMe to aid in his journey as part of the Team Canada junior national field hockey team that year. That team finished fourth at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championship and then qualified for the Junior World Cup later that year.
