Abbotsford’s Raine Padgham hopes to head to Cuba to train with the Team Canada women’s baseball team in February.

Raine Padgham, Abbotsford’s pink-haired pitching prospect, has been invited to train with the Team Canada women’s baseball team next month.

The 13-year-old prodigy has been turning heads on the baseball diamond for several years, and has successfully competed against boys and girls during her emerging career.

Team Canada’s training camp occurs in Cuba in February, and Padgham and her family are seeking support to help send her there through GoFundMe. The campaign has a $10,000 goal, and funds raised will be used to help her cover the expenses of the trip.

Back in the summer of 2017, Padgham made history by becoming the first player to ever play on a girls and boys team at the Western Canadian Baseball Championships. Last summer she helped Team B.C. earn a silver medal at the Baseball Canada 13U AAA National Championships.

This coming year she will also become the first-ever girl to play on the Fraser Valley Cardinals bantam baseball team.
