Abbotsford's OIivia Tran has signed with the York University Lions women's hockey program.

Abbotsford's Olivia Tran has committed to York University and the Lions women's hockey program beginning next year.

The Toronto-based school announced the inking of the Greater Vancouver Comets AAA star goalie on Friday (Dec. 6).

Tran has spent the last three seasons with the Comets, who play out of the BC Elite Hockey League's U18 women's division. The club plays its home games out of Planet Ice in Port Coquitlam.

Tran is having a breakout season in between the pipes for the Comets and has posted a sparkling record of 15-1-0 to go with eight shutouts. She has also posted a goals against average of 0.93 in her 16 starts.

The Comets are first in the BCEHL's U18 women's division and have a record of 19-2-1-0. Tran previously played with the Delta Hockey Academy in 2021-22 before joining the Comets starting in 2022. She also played minor hockey in Abbotsford.

The York University Lions women's hockey program play in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports and have won three OUA titles (1983, 1987 and 1997). They qualified for the U Sports championship tournament in 2020, but that event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lions have a record of 4-8-1-1 and they rank seventh in the OUA's West Division. The team plays out of the Canlan Ice Sports complex on the York campus. Dan Church has been the head coach of the program since 2004.
