Abbotsford’s Katie Korstrom has been named as one of 115 players across the United States to the Tucci/National Fastpitch Coaches Association DII Player and Pitcher of the Year watch list.

Korstrom, a Yale Secondary grad who is now attending Azusa Pacific University in California, currently has an impressive record of 13-4 with an earned run average of 1.67 in 23 appearances on the pitching mound. She has also recorded nine complete games and posted 90 strikeouts.

Her top performance pitching occurred during a 1-0 win over Western Oregon on Feb. 3 that saw Korstrom pitch a one-hit complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts and also drive in the game’s lone run.

She’s also been strong at the plate, with a batting average of .344 and collecting four home runs and 25 runs batted in. Her top batting performance came on Feb. 4 with five RBIs against Central Washington.

Last month saw Korstrom earn both a PacWest player of the week nod and a Wilson/NFCA Division II pitcher of the week honour.

Korstrom had a storied local career and was a member of the 2019 Canadian Junior Women’s National Team which won bronze at both the WBSC U19 Women’s World Cup and the U17 Pan American Championship.

She also helped the U16 White Rock Renegades win a national fastpitch championship in 2018. Korstrom earned an Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame wall of fame nomination in 2019.

Korstrom and the APU Cougars currently have a conference record of 9-9 and wrap up the regular season on April 29. The PacWest Softball Championships will then occur from May 3 to 5 in La Mirada, Calif.
