Abbotsford volleyballers turned in a series of podium finishes at the provincial and national beach championships, held over the past two weekends at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver.

Steven Marshall, who has represented Canada internationally in beach volleyball in the past, won silver in the senior men's division at nationals, which were held Aug. 23-25. Marshall, partnering with Vancouver native Krzysztof Orman, made it to the final, where they fell on three sets (21-13, 18-21, 15-13) to Mike Plantinga of Langley and Cam Wheelan of Barrie, Ont.

Three other local teams won national medals in the U14 age category. Carson Bargen and Colton Loewen won the U14 boys title, while on the girls side, Janelle Loewen and Danielle Wood claimed gold while Karrissa Marazzi and Ashley Huberts took bronze.

The provincial beach championships were held the previous weekend, and Abbotsford teams combined for six medals.

Kaden Gamache and Zec Johnson were double medalists – they won the U15 boys division and finished third in the U16 draw. Jordan Loewen and Jordan Koslowsky took gold in the U16 boys category, while Emma Gamache and Teagan Boughen were the U13 girls champs.

Bargen and Loewen (silver, U14 boys) and Huberts and Marazzi (bronze, U14 girls) also took home B.C. medals.
