A couple of Abbotsford rugby athletes will be hitting the road soon as members of Canada's U20 Women's Rugby Team, who are scheduled to travel to Ireland in May.
Rugby Canada recently announced its 28-woman lineup for the Ireland tour, with multiple Abbotsford athletes making the cut following their impressive performances with the UBC Thunderbirds last season, which led to the team's first U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship title.
Alexis Dobson joined the Thunderbirds last year and wasted no time making her presence felt on the pitch, scoring three tries in her rookie season.
Fellow Abbotsford alumn Lana Dueck will also be on the U20 squad as one of the backs, with Dueck recently wrapping up her second season with UBC where she scored two tries in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
These two will be joined by many other B.C. athletes in Ireland on May 10 and 17. Head coach Dean Murten said that dwindling down the roster to just 28 athletes was no easy task.
"This is an exciting group of up-and-coming players that our experienced coaching staff is looking forward to working with in Ireland," Murten said.
While Emilie Brett of Abbotsford was named as a reserve player, she won't be travelling with the team unless called up as a replacement.
