The Abbotsford Rugby Football Club are set to celebrate a half century on the pitch with an anniversary celebration and awards night later this year.

The event is set for May 13 at the Straiton Community Hall.

Organizers state that there will be buffet dinner, a look back at the club’s impressive history through photos and stories and time to attendees to reminisce.

Tickets are $75 and include a drink ticket with dinner. There is also the option to purchase a table of six for $400, that amount includes both a drink ticket and a bottle of wine for the table.

Organizers are sending out the invite to any and all former players of the ARFC.

The club was established in the fall of 1972 and initially joined the Vancouver Rugby Union league. The following year ARFC joined the Fraser Valley Rugby Union league. ARFC won the FVRU title in 1974-75 and then earned a berth into the club’s first second division championship. However they lost 18-7 to the Kats in the final.

Recent years has seen ARFC achieve significant success, winning provincial first division titles in 2016, 2008, 2005, 2004 and 2002. They have also earned titles in both the women’s and youth division.
