Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament finalists set

Games run Saturday at Columbia Bible College, proof of full vaccination required for fans

The finalists for Championship Saturday at the Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament are almost completely set.

The 2021 edition of the tournament kicked off on Tuesday (Dec. 7) at schools all across Abbotsford and the senior boys final will see the W.J. Mouat Hawks take on the Robert Bateman Timberwolves.

Mouat posted wins over the St. John Brebeuf Bears (96-36) on Tuesday and the Rick Hansen Hurricanes (82-52) on Wednesday (Dec. 8). Bateman advanced to the finals with wins over Dasmesh Punjabi School Falcons (101-38) on Tuesday and the MEI Eagles (78-61) on Wednesday.

The two teams square off at 8 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 11) at Columbia Bible College.

The senior girls final will see the Yale Lions take on the MEI Eagles on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Yale beat Hansen 82-37 on Tuesday and the Abbotsford Traditional Titans 96-55 on Wednesday to advance to the final. MEI defeated St. John Brebeuf 87-33 on Tuesday and won 86-66 over the Abbotsford Senior Panthers on Wednesday.

The junior boys final pits Yale against MEI at 4 p.m.

Yale picked up wins over Mouat (69-56) on Tuesday and Hansen (65-56) on Wednesday, while MEI beat the Abbotsford Christian Knights (83-13) on Tuesday and Abbotsford Senior (48-43) on Wednesday.

Junior girls action also sees Yale and MEI tangle, with that game tipping off at 2:30 p.m.

Yale beat Abbotsford Senior 80-19 on Tuesday and Abbotsford Traditional 65-44 on Wednesday, while MEI beat ACS 54-34 on Tuesday and Bateman 62-19 on Wednesday.

The Grade 8 boys and girls finals occur at 1:00 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. respectively, but those finals will not be determined until later today (Thursday).

The Grade 9 boys final occurs at 10 a.m. and features Abbotsford Senior vs. Mouat. The Grade 8 girls final sees ACS vs. St. John Brebeuf. That game opens Championship Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Championship Saturday will be following all Provincial Health Officer rules for sporting events and has received approval for full capacity inside CBC’s Columbia Place gym.

All spectators 12 and older will require proof of full vaccination in order to attend on Saturday. Columbia Place can hold a maximum of 1,400 fans.
