The Abbotsford Panthers and MEI Eagles provincial basketball title hopes were dashed on Thursday (March 9) evening inside the Langley Events Centre.
Abbotsford took on the second seeded Oak Bay squad and fell behind 25-13 after the first quarter and then trailed 46-30 at halftime. The Panthers drew within 15 points in the fourth quarter, but never got closer than that and lost 95-77.
Hayden Sansalone led the Panthers with 29 points, while Dilveer Randhawa added 23. Abbotsford had challenges stopping Oak Bay’s Griffin Arnatt, who had a game high 39 points.
Abbotsford now enters the 4A consolation bracket and takes on Vancouver College today (Friday) at 5:15 p.m.
The MEI Eagles led the Dover Bay Dolphins 21-18 after one and 41-32 at halftime, but the Dolphins took over in the second half to earn the 83-76 win.
Gabe Vig led the Eagles with 23 points, while Micah Young contributed 17. Dover Bay’s Luke Linder made history in the win, establishing a new 3A single-game scoring record with 49 points.
MEI enters the 3A consolation bracket and next take on College Heights tonight at 8:45 p.m.
Meanwhile in the 4A consolation bracket, the W.J. Mouat Hawks earned a 64-58 win over Tamanawis on Thursday. The Hawks next take on Heritage Woods today at noon.
