Abbotsford judo athletes chasing national gold in Richmond

The Canadian Judo Championships run July 4-7 in Richmond, and the Abbotsford Judo Club is sending a record number of athletes.

The Canadian Judo Championships run July 4-7 at the Richmond Olympic Oval, and the Abbotsford Judo Club is sending a record number of athletes to the national competition.

The event is expected to draw over 700 athletes from across the country, including 14 locals.

Brandon Jobb, who owns multiple national titles and competes internationally for Canada, leads the Abby contingent. He’ll compete in the U21 male division, along with Kieran Yodogawa and Rady Detchev.

Six athletes are competing in the U18 male class, including Simren Brar, Brayden Cryer, Greg Laslo, Brandon Slooyer, Jeff Swadden and Cole Yodogawa. Leo Goldberg, Connor Slooyer and Mitchell Wolfe are in the U15 male draw, while Aven Briggs (senior male) and Tim Beardall (masters male) round out the local content.
