Treat officials with respect

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This is a statement made by one of the presenters who spoke at the “proposed local school calendar consultation process” at the school board meeting of Feb. 21.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This is a statement made by one of the presenters who spoke at the  “proposed local school calendar consultation process” at the school board  meeting of Feb. 21.There were several delegations who presented their thoughts and views. I was embarrassed to be part of the gallery in the way the delegations treated our elected trustees. Most of the presentations were very vitriolic and disrespectful.I think back to 2010 when a survey was sent to parents regarding the possibility of changing the school calender, requesting their input. To my recollection there were a very small percentage of the surveys returned.Since there was so little interest shown, the board moved ahead on the basis of what they thought was best for the students. The straw hit the fan. It appears the board has gone back to the consultation process.I feel that the trustees are entitled to an apology. Is education not a team effort between students, parents, teachers, administration and elected trustees? If a student wants to learn, supported by parents, taught by caring, hard-working teachers, supported by caring support staff and community, would not positive results be realized? For the sake of our children, please work as a team. Please  treat our elected officials with respect.Eric Myrholm
