Orchard pistols should be banned

Re: It is not only the cannons

The blueberry council has advised me that my new neighbours have the right to wake my entire household at 6:30 a.m. every day, regardless if it is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday.

They also have the right to continue throughout the evening as I attempt to entertain guests at a barbecue on my deck.

This I firmly believe will be dealt with, but there is also something even worse – orchard pistols.

Orchard pistols, are beyond annoying.  They are dangerous.

They fire a cartridge that emits a 100 decibel shreiking sound that terrifies livestock.

This cartridge travels 100 metres and twice caused my wife’s horse to bolt.

We are fortunate she has not been injured – yet.

I found one of these cartridges dead center on my property after the last event.

These pistols cannot be regulated with proximity guidelines because they are handheld and can be aimed in any direction, and are easily transported to an area within the guidelines.

They must be eliminated entirely.

Even after explaining the danger to my neighbour they did not stop.  The fact is they don’t care.

By the way, I did not move into this situation. I was here farming peacefully for 10 years before the blueberry farmers moved next to me.

Don’t tell me that violent explosions are a normal part of farming practice.
