Man sentenced in comedy-show incident

Jasminder Sidhu was among a group that became unruly during outside of the Abbotsford Arts Centre in March 2011.

An Abbotsford man has been fined $2,500 for his role in a mob scene outside of a Punjabi comedy show in March 2011.

Jasminder Sidhu, 36, was initially charged with causing bodily harm and assault with intent to resist arrest, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault.

His brother, Chamkaur Sidhu, 38, was sentenced last September to one year’s probation after pleading guilty to a charge of mischief in connection to the same incident.

The two were attending a comedy show called Naughty Baba Back in Town at the Abbotsford Arts Centre on March 18, 2011.

The show was cancelled due to concerns about too many tickets having been sold for the number of seats available.

Many people had not been seated when the cancellation was announced, and a ruckus ensued.

Chamkaur smashed a window at the theatre entrance, and Jasminder kicked and punched one of the police officers who had been called to the scene.
