LETTER: Rethink Beaver Street plan

I could not believe what I read in the paper saying Beaver Street was going to get a sidewalk

Re: New walkways for Abbotsford.

I could not believe what I read in the paper saying Beaver Street was going to get a sidewalk from Marshall Road to Dolphin Street. Really?! That is about a little more than a block. What about the rest of the street?

This street is like a speedway from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and from 2:30 until 5:30 p.m. and busy most of the times before and after these hours.

There are no stop signs on Beaver so these drivers can go as fast as they dare. Most of the people driving here are not local and are using Beaver to get to Peardonville so they miss the lights on Clearbrook Road.

We have people walking their children to school and older seniors walking on it and all are at risk of losing their lives.

We did have our street resurfaced last year, which was great but tends to make people drive faster.

There was supposed to be a study conducted to determine how many locals and non-locals were using this street but haven’t seen anything of that yet. Council should really rethink their plan for Beaver before a tragedy occurs.
