LETTER: Pride decision showed respect for inherent dignity of all people

Providing social justice throughout the entire community

An open letter to Abbotsford mayor and council:

The British Columbia Association of Social Workers, Fraser River Branch Executive, wants to congratulate you and the other council members on making the unanimous, historic, decision to fly the pride flag during the Fraser Valley Pride Celebrations from July 17-19.

The Fraser River Branch  Executive notes that this decision showed respect for the unique worth and inherent dignity of all people, exhibited appreciation for the diversity among individuals in our community and provided leadership to the community at large sending a clear message that Abbotsford is becoming a more inclusive and welcoming community.

Your vote is another clear indication that all citizens straight or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, intersexual, queer, questioning or 2-spirited, will be held with positive regard by the municipal government in the city of Abbotsford.

The social workers of the Fraser River Branch Executive thank you for acting in a way that provides social justice throughout the entire community.

The Fraser River Branch Executive further encourages the citizens of Abbotsford to take in one of the events being sponsored by Out in the Valley or the Fraser Valley Youth Society at Trethewey House during that time period.
