LETTER: Pick up after your dog

Every day I am disgusted by the fact that more and more dog owners seem to think it is quite all right to not pick up after their dog...

Every day I walk my dog around Mill Lake.

Every day I am disgusted by the fact that more and more dog owners seem to think it is quite all right to not pick up after their dog.

Not only is there dog feces all along the path in the grass, but now apparently letting your dog poop on the actual walkway and leaving it is also OK.

I’m not sure if you are too lazy to pick it up; think you are above doing something so yucky or you just don’t care.

Whatever the reason, grow up and pick it up!

And in case you didn’t know, under the Abbotsford Bylaws Act it states, “If you do not clean up after your dog, you may be fined $75 under the Good Neighbour Bylaw.”

I am also curious as to why dog owners think that just because I am walking with my dog, I want every other dog that passes to come up to my dog and “get to know him.” I don’t!

Now I’m sure your dog Fluffy is nice to other dogs, gets along with everyone and he just wants to say “hi.” My dog has been attacked twice by “friendly” dogs, or so I was told by the owner. In case you are thinking that my dog showed aggression and brought this on himself, he did not, in fact he is rather shy about face-to-face meet-ups and apparently rightfully so. I love my dog and do not like the thought of him being injured, not to mention the vet costs if he is.

I realize in the grand scheme of things these two things are really irrelevant, but on a day-to-day basis not so much.
