Known not as the City in the Country in towns beyond our city limits, Abbotsford is unfortunately recognized for organized crime and our poor treatment of the homeless.
Whether true or false, these perceptions create major economic consequences for our community. A poor outlook on a community does nothing to support the real estate market or attract out-of-town businesses looking to set up shop and create employment.
In the year ahead, the City of Abbotsford and our elected municipal leaders will be deciding on a new course for our community through a re-vamped Official Community Plan.
This will be one opportunity for citizens to voice their ideas and direct our leaders to make positive change for jobs, economic growth and sustainable development through strategic land-use planning.
As our mayor and council come forward with a proposed plan, consider attending a meeting, voicing your concerns and contributing your vision of the community to our leaders. The more people who participate, the better the outcome and the greatest chance we have of a positive result.
Abbotsford has the potential to be an incredible place to live and work. We have the most productive agricultural land in Canada, an outstanding university and an airport that is screaming for new aerospace business. We also have an excellent social infrastructure through our places of worship.
It’s up to each and every one of us to play our part to make Abbotsford thrive in 2014!
