LETTER: Giving rather than getting

I received a call from my aunt who is living with Post Polio who was in distress as her car had broken down in Abbotsford.

My uncle, her husband, who just last week was diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer, had been having seizures and almost daily had been taken to hospital in an ambulance for the past three weeks due to these seizures.

Up to the point of my uncle’s diagnosis, he had been her caregiver and had tended to her needs with love and care. This diagnosis has changed this and she now finds herself in the caregiving role for him.

I arrived to find her car unable to start. I drove her to the doctor and afterwards, home to Chilliwack.

I thought, ”I need a miracle for them.”

I went to Arvids Tire and Autocare owned by Jim Neville.

I told him the brief story of the situation and asked if he could be a part of a Christmas miracle. He towed the car into his shop, gave it an oil change and a tune up and said that the car needed lots of attention but this was what he could do for them and did this for free.

It amazes me the people who own businesses in Abbotsford have such huge hearts for the community in which they live and care by going above and beyond what they are asked to do.

Thank you to Jim, who demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas and made a believer out of me and my family for the goodness of people by giving rather than getting.
