LETTER: Couldn't believe outrage expressed by many over the raising of the pride flag

Hateful rejection of the reality of homosexuality and gay marriage diminishes us all

I moved to B.C. from another province recently and settled in Abbotsford. I had always thought that B.C. was one of the more progressive provinces. If Abbotsford represents typical B.C. residents, I may have a rethink.

I could not believe the vitriol and outrage expressed by many over the raising of the pride flag. I had to look at the calendar and yes, it is 2015. While everyone has a right to an opinion, this type of intolerance must be challenged. Do these folk really believe that gays " choose" a lifestyle that may result in them losing their family, friends, job, and face discrimination of the worst kind? The evangelic folk thank that its either their way for the highway to hell. I know that they are anti-science, but at least walk the talk of the Christian ethic and live and let live. In spite of your protestations, love will win.

I may be guilty of outrage myself over this as I want Canada to be the place that we think it is – tolerant, welcoming , inclusive and compassionate. This hateful rejection of the reality of homosexuality and gay marriage diminishes us all.

Kudos the mayor and city for allowing this small tribute to gay pride week.
