LETTER: Charge deposit for ER visits

Re: ARH emergency room congestion, The News, June 8.

The Fraser Health Authority wants to solve the issue by hiring more personnel. This would probably alleviate the situation somewhat, but there is a simpler solution, I think.

Charge each individual who comes into the emergency a deposit in the amount of, for example, $50 right off the top.

If their situation is genuine, that deposit would be refunded to them.

I believe that people should be encouraged to make use of walk-in clinics instead of clogging up the emergency facility at the hospital.

I think that there is too much misuse being made. A cut finger or nose-bleed should not stand in the way of legitimate emergencies.
