LETTER: Blueberry cannons are a huge concern

Each year this particular farm seems to add more cannons and they go off with more frequency with a total disregard of the local residents.

Being that we live across from a blueberry farm, the cannon issue is a huge concern.

Each year this particular farm seems to add more cannons and they go off with more frequency with a total disregard of the local residents and their animals.

I came home from work last year and upon stepping out of my truck, I was greeted by the sound of a cannon. For the next three hours, there was no more than a 45-second interval between the cannon blasts.

As this continued on for months, seven days a week, I would compare this to living in a war zone. I also own and operate a local business that employs over 20 people. I realize that these farms are a business and need to be profitable in order to remain viable. However, if I subjected my staff and my business neighbours to this type of noise barrage, I would be warned, fined or subjected to further sanctions.

Again, I respect the fact that these farms need to make a profit, but there has to be some kind of correction, as this situation gets worse every year.
