LETER: Where is logic in cancelling recess?

First and foremost, I am for teachers’ right to a fair contract that both supports their education and responsibility while providing a safe and creative learning environment for our children.

Now upon learning that the school board has decided in their wisdom to cancel recess, based on the teachers refusing to supervise this time is something I do not understand.

It has been proven time and time again that children need down time throughout the day in order for their developing brains to soak in all this new information. No recess will limit this, thus be a detriment to their learning.

Child obesity is climbing so it is decided that children should have less time for running around during a day and more time sitting. Where is the logic in that?

I hope both sides figure out a solution to this nonsense and actually sit down at the table.
