William Alvin McIVER

May 15, 2005

We regret to announce the passing of William Alvin McIver on May 15, 2005. Born in Brooks, Alberta on December 25th, 1914 to Albert and Viola McIver he began a life of faith in his Creator, devotion to his family and commitment to the well being of his fellow man.

Bill attended school in Herbert, Saskatchewan and later earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. During his professional career as teacher and dentist he was honoured with a lifetime membership in the Canadian Dental Association. While attending university Bill met and married his wife Margaret (Fulton) McIver.

After serving his country in WWII as a member of the Army Dental Corps, Bill opened a dental practice in Edmonton. In 1952 the family moved to Penticton, B.C.

Bill will be remembered by friends, patients and colleagues, fellow members of the Kiwanis Club of which he served as president, and brothers in the Penticton Masons Lodge where he was honoured to serve as Grand Master in the early sixties. Dr. McIver was also instrumental in the establishment of Kiwanis Village in Penticton, a project that would provide comfortable and secure housing for seniors in the community.

In 1970, their family grown, Bill and Margaret moved to Victoria where Bill practiced dentistry in partnership with his nephew Andrew Glen from England, until his retirement.

Bill will be greatly missed by all of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Margaret, son Blair McIver (wife Lillian) of Columbus, Mississippi, daughters Beth McDaniel (Darren Gustafson) of Armstrong, B.C. and Kathy and Wally Doan of Abbotsford, B.C., brother George McIver (wife Margaret) of Camrose, Alberta and sister Louise Venuti (husband Alec, deceased) of San Jose, California, grandchildren Kelly McIver (Richard), Jessica Towpich (husband Clayton), Kimberley Boquien (husband Etienne), Bill Doan and Carrie Doan and great grand daughter, Gabrielle Richard. Bill McIver was pre-deceased by his brother Albert (Bert) McIver and his grandson Patrick McIver.

Husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend; we treasure your memory.

A service will be held in his memory Friday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Abbotsford, B.C.
