October 8, 1938 - March 8, 2021
Walter Dahl passed away at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on March 8, 2021 due to complications after surgery for Cauda Equina Syndrome.
He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Alvin and Art and brother-in-law David.
Walter is survived by his loving wife Alida of 58 years; three children; Sandra Driediger (Mark), Jamie Dahl and Robert Dahl; four grandsons; Bradly (Kimberly), Brent (Olivia), Lucas (Raquel) and Jeffrey Driediger; nine great-grandchildren; Jakob, Azlyn, Isaiah, Walter, Bowen, Ivy, Holland, Wyatt and Malcolm; brothers and sisters Lenora Redekop, David (Agnes), Peter (Heidi), Helen Klatt (Herman), Ken (Janice), Karen Reddicopp (Len), sisters-in-law Edith Dahl and Margaret Dahl.
Walter was born on October 8, 1938 in Yarrow, BC to Jakob and Elizabeth Dahl, the third of nine children. He attended Upper Sumas Elementary and M.E.I. Secondary, graduating from Grade 13 in 1958.
After high school, he spent a year at Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta. When school was complete, Walter worked at Surrey Co-op in Feed Sales where he enjoyed getting to know the farming community.
Walter married Alida Ridder on September 27, 1963 at First Christian Reformed Church, Abbotsford. They lived, worked and raised their family in Sumas Prairie on the dairy farm Walter grew up on. Walter loved farming and particularly loved nurturing a top producing dairy herd. He was active in the Dairy Industry, enjoying his involvement there.
The post dairy farm years were filled with times of traveling, RV trips, golf, grandparenting, maintaining their property and supporting his family. He took great joy in seeing the family continue to farm the family land. Walter's family meant the world to him and he often expressed his thankfulness that everyone enjoyed each other and got along.
Walter faced life with a positive attitude and a smile even through the pain and suffering he endured in a deteriorating physical condition. His faith was central to his life which was evident to the very last difficult days.
A graveside service for the immediate family will be held at Yarrow Mennonite Cemetery. Please visit Wiebe and Jeske Funeral Home, Abbotsford www.wiebeandjeskefh.com to leave condolences. Memorial donations can be made to Global Aid Network (https://give.globalaid.net/).
