Mercer; Violet Edith (Vi)

February 3, 1924 - April 13, 2016

Our 'Auntie' Vi passed away peacefully on April 13, 2016 at the Tabor Home in Abbotsford at the age of 92. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bill (December 1981) and sister Pearl (September 1982), she was the last surviving member of her family and the oldest child of Albert and Clara Knowles of Coleman, Alberta. Vi is survived by her nephews Michael (Kathleen) and Patrick (Gillian) and niece Sheryl McWhinney (Mark), and their families. Retired from BC Tel as a Personnel Assistant, Vi was a talented pianist and organist who served with the Salvation Army in her early years. She was an avid gardener and a dedicated dog lover with an enduring affection for all things Newfoundland, even the jokes and the salt cod. Vi and Bill enjoyed travelling across Canada from coast to coast in their VW camper van with their dogs and loved meeting the many interesting people along the way. They were especially fond of sharing stories of their adventures in Quebec. In later years, Vi developed a passion for computers and electronic gadgets of all description, and enjoyed acquiring the latest technology available. Words cannot express the family's gratitude to the Tabor Home staff for the love and care Vi received over the last 10 years, at times under challenging circumstances. There will be no formal service at Vi's request however a private family celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks.
