Violet Alexander passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on February 27, 2008 at Mission Memorial Hospital. She was born Violet Spracklin in Charlottetown, Newfoundland and moved to Boston and then Edmonton, Alberta, where she met the love of her life, George Alexander, and they were married for 75 years until his passing in 2003. In 1947 the family moved to Mission and Violet worked in several places on main street in the 1950’s and 1960’s such as Hillside Bakery, Blue Ribbon Dairy and the Bus Depot cafe. She worked at Mission Hospital from the late 1960’s to her retirement in 1974. She was involved in the Orange Lodge and was leader of the Junior Orange Lodge. She will be sadly missed by her 5 sons-Robert (Marylou) of Kingston, Ontario, Hamilton (Doreen) of Mission, George (Wilma) of Richmond, B.C., James of Victoria and Bruce of Calgary, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Johnson and the staff at Mission Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion; Rev. Robin Ross and Evelyn Ross for their friendship and caregiving; and the excellent staff at The Cedars Assisted Living Residence for their care and commitment to Violet in the final 1 1/2 years of her full life.
