CHRISTENSEN, Vagn Kongensgaard

It is with regret that the family of Vagn Kongensgaard Christensen announces his passing, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Vagn was born in Dover Udby, Denmark on April 1, 1932 to Anna and Aage Christensen. He spent a happy childhood as the eldest of four siblings. Vagn moved to Copenhagen, where he met his sweetheart Lise Mortensen. He completed his apprenticeship as a baker before he immigrated to Estevan, Saskatchewan in 1957. The following year Lise came to Canada and they were married on Lise’s 21st birthday July 25, 1958. Vagn continued to work in his trade as a baker at different places in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In 1967 he felt that he needed a changed and started long haul truck driving. He loved the freedom of being on the road. They moved to Abbotsford where Vagn continued working for the same company until he retired at the age of 65. Vagn had a passion for his Harley Davidson motorcycles, camping with their motor home and their beloved dogs Pepper and Misty. Vagn and Lise made several trips to Denmark to visit family and to the farm in Saskatchewan to visit his sister-in-law Dorothy (Gordon) and his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Vagn is survived by his wife of 52 years Lise Christensen (Mortensen); brother Hans Kongensgaard Christensen (Denmark); sisters-in-law Ingrid Kongensgaard (Borge) Denmark and Dorothy (Gordon) Hardenne of Shaunavon, Sk; aunt Erna Jensen of Bellingham.
