Thomasina Doreen Marie (nee Allen) of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully in MSA Hospital on August 17, 2005. Born August 15, 1913 in Vancouver, trained at St. Paul’s Hospital, graduated from UBC in Public Health Nursing, Tommy worked at St. Paul’s and in the U.S., Hawaii and Mexico, retiring from Richmond Metropolitan Health Dept. She and her husband Henry spent many winters in the warmth of Desert Hot Springs, California where they made many friends. After Henry died, she became a globetrotter, touching all the continents of the world. She was a strong willed, determined woman who survived a debilitating accident in 1992 to continue to drive, golf and live on her own. Predeceased by her beloved husband Henry and sister Betty in 1991, she will be fondly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Michael Piskorik; grandsons Rob and wife Kim, and Brian; adored great-granddaughter Kyra; special niece and nephew Kathy and Barry Lawley; other nieces and nephews and numerous friends and relatives around the world. Special thanks to Dr. Barry Turchen for his many years of care and to her dear friend, Edie Schneider, for her loving, selfless care. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. from Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Rd., Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
