Swarn was born near Lahore, in the part of the Punjab that is now in Pakistan. After marrying, she accompanied her husband to many parts of the world on his professional wrestling tours. She lived in various Indian cities and also travelled to Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and east Africa. Her first child, Kharak, was born in 1938 and her second child, Rajinder, in 1947. The family immigrated to Britain in 1952 and lived mostly in northern England around Newcastle. Moving on to British Columbia in 1958, the family resided in Masachi Lake, Lake Cowichan, Port Alberni and eventually settled in Abbotsford. Swarn was a true pioneer who lived in BC when there was not many other Punjabi families. She forged close bonds with old time families that she maintained until the end. She worked hard all of her long life and was especially well known as a great cook of Punjabi curries. She was a gentle and caring women who always had time for friends and neighbours or helping out at the Gurudawara. She was proud to be a Canadian and a devoted Sikh. Swarn will be missed by all those who knew her and her passing leaves a loss in our hearts. Predeceased by her loving husband Palwhan Kartar Singh and her son Kharak Singh, she leaves a daughter, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
