RIEDIGER, Susie (Susan)
July 9, 1923 - May 23, 2010
Predeceased by Brother Ed Riediger Susie Riediger was born on July 9, 1923 to Abram and Suzanna Riediger in Gnadedfeld, Zogradofka Ukraine. She emigrated to Canada with her parents and little sister in 1924. The parents settled in the village of Blumenort, Saskatchewan and made their living as farmers. Susan accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 13 on February 1, 1937 and was baptized on August 25, 1940. She finished grade 9-11 by correspondence in the public school in Blumenort and then went to Rosthern, Sask. to finish grade 12. This was followed by a year at normal school and teaching at Hopedale, Sask. Her desire to spend time studying God's word led her to Hepburn Bible School for several years. She graduated from Vancouver General Hospital in the 1950's as an R.N followed by a year at UBC in Public Health. When both parents became ill with terminal cancer, Susie took leave of absence from her work for two years and nursed them at home where they died under her loving care. After the parents passing she worked as an RN at MSA Hospital for 13 years and took early retirement in 1985. Susan and her sister Marie did a lot of travelling in Canada, USA and abroad. Susan and her brother Ed did a lot of singing together at home. She joined a choir in the church wherever she attended. Her health started to deteriorate in 2004 and she was admitted to the Menno Nursing Home in 2006 where she died at 6:43 pm on May 23, 2010 with Marie at her bedside. Susie is survived by two sisters Marie Riediger and Emily Koop; sister-in-law Martha Riediger; 10 nieces and nephews and their families.
Services in memory of Susie will be held on June 1, 2010 at the Central Heights Church 1661 McCallum Rd. in Abbotsford. Public Visitation 11:00am with an interment to take place at 12:15pm at the Maclure Road Mennonite Cemetery and Memorial Service back at the church beginning at 1:30 pm. Donations in honor of Susie may be made to the Prolife Society in Abbotsford.
