In Loving Memory of Surpanch Gurmit Singh Kondolay October 7, 1934 – July 21, 2012. Surpanch Gurmit S. Kondolay was born on October 7, 1934 in Lallpur (Jawadi), Pakistan. He was the son of the late Tara Singh and Basant Kaur. Due to the partition of India and such circumstances his family settled in Bagga Khurd, Ludhiana. On March 26th, 1956 he married his lifelong partner, Sukhdev Kaur and was blessed with eight children (4 sons and 4 daughters). He immigrated to Canada on February 21, 1967 and the rest of the family soon followed to Canada in 1968. He struggled to provide for his family as a millworker and later brought out their agricultural roots to become successful farmers of Abbotsford, with retirement to follow in 2003. While on vacation in 2007 to India, he had a total bowel obstruction and later diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Since then, he was given a life expectancy of 2 years and put up a fight of his life with 48 chemo treatments, 13 radiation treatments, and stretched that expectancy to 6 years and travelled 3 more times to his motherland.
He was a devoted father who instilled hard work, honesty and respect to each one of his children. He was passionate and loved life. Surpanch Gurmit S. Kondolay will be remembered and missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family and friends.
