VANDER MEULEN, Stanley (Sape)


On March 19, 2016 Stanley (Sape) Vander Meulen found his peace when he went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He passed away at the Fraser Canyon Hospital in Hope, BC, after a lengthy illness at the age of 83. Stan, second youngest of 10 children, was born in Driesum, Friesland, The Netherlands on January 26, 1933 to Jacob and Anna (Bouma) Vander Meulen. He immigrated to Canada in 1951, where he worked as a contracting entrepreneur. With his then wife, Alice, he had 5 children: Judy (Harold) Atsma, Anne O’Leary, Jacob , Ron (Gini) and David. In 1975, he moved to Abbotsford, British Colombia, where he continued to be a builder and started the family company, Fricia Construction. He was a well-respected businessman and has left memories and fun stories with many. Stan is survived by his loving wife Linda (Hope, BC) and her son Landon (Betty) LeMay. Altogether they shared 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Greggain, Dr. Dickinson, the nurses and staff at Fraser Canyon Hospital for all their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society or a charity of your choice. Memorial service will be at Christ Church, April 4th 1:30 pm, 681 Fraser Ave, Hope, BC officiated by Pastor Forrest Stroup.
