DOWNES, Stanley Walter

passed away in Mission, British Columbia, on Thursday, June 10, 2010. Dad was born in Essex, England on December 17, 1920, to Walter and Ruby Downes. In 1921, he travelled with his parents from England to come to Canada. He grew up in Peterborough, Ontario and married Mary Katherine Warriner on July 4th, 1944, in Douglaston, Saskatchewan. Their 66th anniversary is right around the corner. Dad is survived by his sisters, Vera Holden, of Peterborough, Ruby Ammundsen, of Claresholm, Alberta and his brother, Walter Downes, of Peterborough. He is beloved father to Richard (and Sidsel) Downes, of Mission, B.C., Ted (and Christine) Downes, of Peterborough, (both deceased) and Cathy Goerz, of Comox, B.C. He is beloved grandfather of Stephanie (and Kevin) Fons, of Calgary, Alberta, Toby (and Mike) Blaga of New Westminster, BC., Timothy (and Sarah) Downes, of Roseville, California and Terry Downes (and Jennifer), of Cole Hill. Great-grandfather to James, Adriana and Katelyn Fons, of Calgary, Andre Blaga, of New Westminster, B.C. , Paisley and Violet Downes, of Roseville, California, and Zoe and Logan Downes, of Coe Hill, Ontario. Our Dad Stanley was a very strong individual, not shy of hard work and he rose to the occasion of defending his home country when depended on. He enlisted in the army and, fortunately, the war ended before he had to go overseas. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 18, at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 8134 Hyde St., in Mission, B.C. Rev. Darrell Savage will officiate.
